Sparks – Ek Abhivyakti 2011

‘Sparks – Ek Abhivyakti’, the Annual Literary Festival was held in DPS Chandigarh in May, 2011. There was a gamut of challenging competitions for students of Classes VI – XII to hone their literary and creative skills.

Over 1400 students participated enthusiastically in this festival which lasted for a week.

A wide range of inter house activities such as Scrabble, Comic Strip, Print Ad, Slogan Writing, Story Completion, Dramatization of Poems, What’s the Good Word?, Hasya Kavita, Powerpoint Presentation & Quiz were held. Parents were invited to watch the budding talent of their kids.

The festival is special in ways more than one as it provides a platform for students to showcase their talent and potential.

Infodip 2011

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh proudly hosted Infodip 2011, an Inter-School IT event from 11th to 13th May, 2011. The event received an overwhelming response from the schools of the tricity with over 150 students participating in various activities such as Paint Your Imagination, Bit By Bit – We Make it, Let Me Tell You, Brainstormer, Terminizer, Turncoat and Click-Pic. These were judged by experts from the respective fields.

DPS outshines in Olympiads

Delhi Public School Chandigarh outshone once again in various Olympiads organized by Science Olympiad Foundation, New Delhi.

A special award ceremony was organised by Science Olympiad Foundation at Law Bhawan, Panjab University, Chandigarh on Saturday, 7th May, 2011.  To felicitate the meritorious students, teachers and principals, Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences graced the occasion as the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the proud achievers.

Ms. Reema Dewan, Principal, DPS Chandigarh was awarded Best Principal Trophy for the third consecutive year. Sanat Bhatia, Shreyam Sinha, Shambhavi Ratnapriya, Anirudh Seth and Abhishek Arora, students of DPS Chandigarh were given awards in the various categories. Ms. Shalini Setia, Teacher, DPS Chandigarh also received the award in the Best Teacher’s category.

Labour Day Celebrations

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh held a Special Assembly to observe ‘Labour Day’ so that the students learn that labour is one of the greatest elements of society, the great substantial interest on which we stand.

The programme began with a speech on the origin and significance of ‘Labour Day’. A skit signifying dignity of labour was the highlight of the Assembly. The school environs reverberated to the strains of the song “Kal Gaya to Kaya Hua, Aaj Apne Paas Hai”.

UDAAN – 2011

Junior Sports Day at DPS Chandigarh

Class II of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh organized their Annual sports meet ‘UDAAN’ on 29th April, 2011. It was a day full of fun and frolic as the students brimming with enthusiasm assembled in their respective House arenas.

The meet was given a flying start by the Principal Mrs. Reema Dewan, who lit the torch and declared the sports meet open. This was followed by a March Past by various house contingents. Next came an enthralling display of drills by the gallant dipsites. The students of class III cheered their house participants and spurred them to go beyond their best during the fun and the relay races. The teachers also actively took part in a brisk walking race. The meet concluded on a happy note with the Principal Mrs. Dewan congratulating the winners. The confidence and the beaming smiles of the winners to the victory stand conveyed the message of many potential sport stars at DPS sports ground.

Mothers’ Day 2011

The students of DPS Chandigarh commemorated Mothers’ Day to pay a tribute to mothers all over the world. It was a high spirited week as the students enthusiastically participated in various activities. Mothers’ Day celebrations organized by the Pre-Primary saw the active participation of all the mothers who had assembled here. The little children welcomed their moms with cards and handcrafted mementoes. They sang soulful songs followed by fun games and activities. All the mothers were seen enthusiastically participating in the games shedding their inhibitions thereby adding fun and vigour to the celebrations.

A special assembly was organized by the junior school which commenced with a skit highlighting the fact that mothers are milled in their never ending household work and are often taken for granted. They too need a break. The group song ‘Meri Pyaari Maa’ sung by children held the audience spell bound followed by a thunderous applause.

Earth Day Celebrations

Giving voice to the environmental movement, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh commemorated ‘Earth Day’ with a week-long celebration. The students poignantly spread awareness about the human impact on environment. The celebrations also served as a reminder that it is never too late to start taking small steps each day.

A series of activities and competitions such as Best out of Waste, Poster Making and Collage Making saw all the students involved and buzzing. Their underlying themes such as keeping the environment clean, preserving our environment and being aware of the perils looming large were aptly put across.

Parents of the Pre-Primary children were seen intrinsically involved in activities that promoted the 4R’s i.e. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Refurnish.

All the Dipsites came together when they joined hands to take the Water Conservation Pledge. The little ones were seen swinging and swaying to the song ‘Tree-O-Tree’. Furthermore, nature walks and Green Day with children sporting green dresses and green tiffins reinforced the theme.

The week came to an end with a T-Shirt Painting Competition where the senior students displayed their exceptional talent and thus the message ‘Go Green’ was explicitly expressed through slogans.

Baisakhi & Ambedkar Jayanti Celebrations

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated the festival of Baisakhi and Ambedkar Jayanti with great zeal and fervour.

A special assembly was held on the occasion. The programme began with a soul stirring ‘Shabad Recital’ by the school choir. This was followed by a speech on the life and works of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The programme concluded with the brilliantly choreographed dance performance depicting the celebration during harvest period.

Nursery Orientation

DPS Chandigarh conducted an ‘Orientation Programme’ for the parents of Class Nursery on 28th March, 2011. The programme was organized to give an insight to the parents about the curriculum and teaching methodology to be followed in the session.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp followed by two dance sequences. The little angels of last year’s Class Nursery shared with parents, their special moments of fun-filled learning at DPS Chandigarh.

Annual Show – Nursery

The students of Class Nursery of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh staged a musical show ‘A Dream Come True’ on the evening of 24th February, 2011. Ms. Garima Singh, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The show in which all the 172 tiny tots of Class Nursery participated was based on the ever popular fairy tale ‘Cinderella’. Coupled with mesmerising music and enthralling dance sequences, the show had a message for all, that the power to make our dreams come true, lies within us. Attired in vibrant costumes, the children cast a magical spell on the audience with their captivating performance. The aura of the stars and bewitching ambience gave just the right backdrop to the splendour of the gala event.

Annual Show – Prep

Students of Class Prep of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh presented their Annual Show ‘Jungle Moods’ on the evening of 23rd February, 2011. Mr. Alok Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Based on the all-time favourite story, Jungle Book, the show was an adventure trip through the woods, where all the friends of the jungle had gathered to sing a jungle lullaby. It was heartening to watch all the 240 tiny tots of Class Prep sing and dance to jungle tunes thereby giving a message to one and all not to be cruel to animals and save wild life.

Sports Day 2

A Sports Meet ‘Indradhanush’ was organized by DPS Chandigarh on the occasion of Republic Day on 26th January in the school premises. More than 1000 children from classes VI-X participated with great zeal and enthusiasm and put up a spectacular show.

Mr. Dinesh Mongia, a noted cricketer of international repute, presided over the meet as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the efforts of the school in channelizing the energy of the children in the right direction by organizing such events. He thanked the parents for taking care of the country and extolled the children to carry forward the torch.

The day commenced with hoisting of the National flag by the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan and release of balloons. The school choir presented a medley of patriotic songs expressing their pride in being an Indian.

This was followed by lighting of the flame by the sports stars of our school.

The children impressed the gathering with their immaculate March Past, graceful aerobics, harmonious, rhythmic and colourful drill and synchronized yoga. The show was interspersed with quite a few fun races – Ant Bully, Ball Wonder, Choco Wrap etc. The children participating in the races seemed to be have a rocking time.

The grand finale of the day, the energetic, lively foot tapping ‘Bhangra’ mesmerized everyone.

Sports Day 1

The students of DPS Chandigarh organized a spectacular Sports Meet ‘Indradhanush’ on 25th January, 2011 in the school premises. The meet was organized in keeping with the belief upheld by the school that apart from academics, sports activities, such as these, too play a vital role in development of a child’s personality. More than 1100 children from classes VI-X participated with great zeal and enthusiasm and put up a magnificent show.

Mr. P.K. Srivastava, I.G. Police, Chandigarh, presided over the meet as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the efforts of the children telling them that winning and participation are equally important. He advised the parents, the custodians of children to create awareness about traffic rules in their children. The meet was also attended by many other distinguished guests and proud parents.

The meet commenced with the lighting of the flame by the sports stars of our school. The school choir then enthralled the audience with a medley of songs.

The meet showcased a spell-binding display of March Past, Aerobics, Yoga and drill. The fascinating mix of harmony, rhythm, colour and melody impressed one and all. The show was interspersed with a few fun races – Knotty Kerchiefs, Sahib Memsahib, Engine Shunting, Garlands Galore and many more. The children seemed to be having a blast while participating in these fun races.

The grand finale of the day was the pride of Punjab – ‘Bhangra’. Each and everyone in the audience was mesmerized by the lively, foot tapping, energetic presentation of the dancers of DPS.

Quiz on Germany – National

It is a matter of great pride that DPS Chandigarh bagged the First Prize in the National Final Round of Quiz on Germany organized by DPS Society in association with Max Mueller Bhawan, New Delhi. The team comprised of Gurtej Singh Sohi and Shreyam of Class IX. The proud winners were awarded a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 30,000/-. The quiz aimed to create interest in students and schools for German people, language and culture.

Earlier seven Zonal Rounds were held in the months of December, 2010 and January 2011 reaching out to innumerable schools across the country. DPS Chandigarh beat 12 other teams in the Zonal Round held at DPS Chandigarh and qualified for the finals held at DPS Noida.

Christmas

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated Christmas with great fervour and enthusiasm. The entire school vibrated with the echoes of Christmas carols.

The Pre-Primary wing wore a festive look with bells, streamers and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Several activities such as decorating Christmas Trees and Stockings, making Christmas Cards and Hand-crafted bells were organized for the students. The children were told about the birth of Lord Jesus and the legend of Santa Claus. The spirit of giving and sharing was inculcated among the tiny tots as they exchanged exquisitely packed gifts with each other and played games. Staging of Nativity Play by the Junior School children was the highlight of the day. Later, class wise activities and parties were also organized for the junior and senior wing of the school.

Christmas was special for the students of Shiksha Kendra, an afternoon school of DPS Chandigarh. They too celebrated Christmas in their own way enjoying a special Christmas cake and gifts. The boundless joy of celebrating the festival was amply visible on the faces of the children especially when Santa moved around distributing sweets to them.
