Saksham Khunger of class VI bagged the First Prize in Inter School Competition on Computers organized by NIE (TOI) in association with The Millennium School, Mohali.
Children’s Day Celebrations
Children’s Day at Delhi Public School, Sector 40, Chandigarh was a joyous occasion for all. Various activities were organised for the students. A special assembly was organised on the occasion by the senior wing. The school Rock Band enthralled everyone with the rendition of various popular numbers. The highlight of the assembly was a dance performance which was a fusion of Salsa and Bhangra. To make it more eventful, the teachers sang a medley of specially chosen songs to suit the occasion. The Pre-primary Wing celebrated the day by organizing class activities and class parties. It was fun time for the tiny tots of the Pre-Primary wing who came dressed in casuals and played games.
Diwali Celebrations
Delhi Public School Chandigarh wore a festive look as the students and staff celebrated the Festival of Lights, Diwali. A Special Assembly was held on the occasion. The celebrations began with a prayer to the almighty. The significance of the day was brought out in a speech and the students were asked to refrain from bursting crackers. The highlight of the programme was the melodious rendition of ‘Saare Jahan ki Khushio ka lekar, aayee Deepawali” by the school choir.
Various activities and competitions such as Diya Making, Thali Decoration, Toran Making, Diwali Card Making and Lantern Making were organized in the Primary Wing. Students of the Senior Wing made posters on ‘Say No to Crackers’ to generate awareness on the harmful effects of bursting crackers.
Investiture Ceremony of the Interact Club
The Interact Club of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh ushered in the newly elected office bearers in an Investiture Ceremony today. Ms. Neena Singh , President, Rotary Club Chandigarh presided over the function as the Chief Guest. The occasion was also graced by immediate Past President, Mr. Arvind Mahajan, Past District Governor, Mr. Madhukar Malhotra and many eminent Rotarians.
True to Indian tradition, the programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a cultural presentation which included a soulful rendition by the school choir and an impressive Street Play on the theme ‘Adult Education’. The highlight of the show was the Mewasi dance performed by the young dancers of the school. This was followed by the formal badging ceremony of the office bearers.
Ms. Neena Singh congratulated the new office bearers and praised the efforts of the outgoing members for the success of previous year’s projects. She appreciated the contribution of the school in raising a sum of Rs. 1,25,000 in addition to other material help for the Leh Relief Fund and Rs. 2,23,905 for the Polio Drive. While urging everybody to believe in service and charity, she expressed her confidence in the young Interactors to put in their best efforts leaving behind a rich legacy.
Investiture and Prize Distribution Ceremony
Delhi Public School, Chandigarh ushered in the ninth Student Council in an Investiture Ceremony marked with anticipation and promise. The evening was also marked with celebration of excellence where the young achievers of the senior school were felicitated for their achievements in academics, sports and co-curricular activities in the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony.
Mr. R.S. Ghuman, S.P. Operations, Chandigarh Police and Mr. R.J. Khanderao, Regional Officer, C.B.S.E. Panchkula presided over the function as Guests of Honour.
As per the DPS tradition, the show began with the lighting of the lamp. A cultural programme comprising of Qawwali, a Santhal dance and a dance on a medley of Bollywood numbers enthralled the audience. A film on leadership made by the students was the highlight of the show.
The honoured guest Mr. R.S. Ghuman administered the Oath of office and gave away the badges to all members of the Student Council. In his address to the students, he encouraged the children to dream big but also work hard to achieve them and be disciplined in life.
The young scholars, budding sportsperson and artists were honoured with proficiency awards, scholar badges and honours badges by the Guest of Honour, Mr. R.J. Khanderao who applauded the performance of the students and congratulated them on their success. He also lauded the efforts made by DPS in the field of education in Chandigarh.
International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer
Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated ‘International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer’ in a befitting manner to generate awareness amongst students about the adverse effects of ozone layer depletion and balancing the needs of the planet with the needs of humanity. The members of the Eco-club of the school conducted several activities and competitions such as Slogan Writing, Poster Making, Pamphlet Designing and Quizzes in the school to mark the day. Special talks were also held to remind all of their responsibility to preserve the ozone layer.
Teachers’ Day Celebrated at DPS Chandigarh
It was a special day for the teachers of Delhi Public School, Sector 40-C, Chandigarh, as they stepped into the school. The entire school echoed with ‘Happy Teachers’ Day’ wishes of the students for their teachers. It was a high-spirited day with the students showering their teachers with beautiful cards, hand-crafted mementos and flowers pouring out their hearts to express their love and gratitude. The students recited poems commemorating their teachers’ efforts by thanking them for being their guiding light.
The celebrations concluded with a dance party followed by lunch for the staff at Hotel Aroma, Chandigarh.
Tarikh-e-dilli

A spellbinding dance-drama ‘Tarikh-e-dilli’ was presented by DPS, Chandigarh on 20th August, 2011 as part of the Annual Day celebrations. It marked the inauguration of state-of-the-art auditorium of the school, ‘Rajiv Gandhi Hall of Excellence’ on the occasion of Akshay Urja Divas – the birthday of Late Sh. Rajiv Gandhi. The three day celebrations that began today also commemorate the completion of 100 years of New Delhi as capital of Modern India.
The Annual Production was attended by many distinguished guests with Honorable Minister of Rural Development, Shri Jairam Ramesh as Chief Guest. Admiral M.M. Chopra, Chairman, DPS Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour. Other eminent guests included Mrs. Ambika Soni, Hon’ble Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Science & Technology & Earth Sciences, Mr. Uday C. Soni, Pro-Vice-Chairman, DPS Chandigarh.
The show commenced with the excellent rendition of a melodious song ‘Swagatam hai aapka… aagman hai aapka’ by the school choir.. The esteemed guests released a brochure to commemorate the special occasion. An audio-visual presentation of the school report portrayed the special moments and milestones achieved by the school in the recent past.
Then came the show stopper of the day, ‘Tarikh-e-dilli’, a dance-drama celebrating a multi-cultural, cosmopolitan metropolis representing the spirit of Delhi with the support of grand sets, excellent light design, impressive film and vibrant costumes. The mega production brilliantly directed by the Principal, Mrs Reema Dewan and choreographed by Ms. Papiha Desai, mesmerized one and all.
The Chief Guest, Sh. Jairam Ramesh while addressing the gathering congratulated the parents and the students for being a part of an institution that provides quality education and prepares children for tomorrow. He also commended the school’s thoughtful selection of the theme for their Annual Day Celebrations.
Admiral M. M. Chopra congratulated the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan for such a spectacular dance drama, calling the production nothing less than perfection. He emphasized on DPS Chandigarh being a child centric school which is a perfect blend of tradition, culture and modernism.

A spectacular dance drama ‘Tarikh-e-dilli’ was presented by DPS Chandigarh on 21st August, 2011 in the school as part of the Annual Day Celebrations. It also marked the inauguration of the school auditorium – ‘Rajiv Gandhi Hall of Excellence’.
The Annual Production was graced by Mr. Ashok Chandra, Chairman, DPS Society and Mr. Uday C. Soni, Pro-Vice-Chairman, DPS Chandigarh.
The celebrations began with a melodious rendition of the song ‘Swagatam hai aapka… aagman hai aapka’ by the school choir. The brochure was released by the esteemed guest to commemorate the special occasion. The school annual report, presented in an audio-visual presentation highlighted some of the milestones achieved by the school in the recent past.
Then was staged, the dance-drama ‘Tarikh-e-dilli’, the audience have been waiting for with a bated breath. The in-house production looks at the transition of Delhi from the medieval kingdoms to the seat of power of the British Empire to its present day status as the capital of India with the help of magnificent sets, excellent light design and brightly colour coordinated costumes. The mega production was brilliantly conceptualized, planned, excecuted and directed by the dynamic Principal, Mrs Reema Dewan and beautifully choreographed by Ms. Papiha Desai.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Ashok Chandra stressed that every child of this country deserves good quality education which will enable him/her to become a good citizen. He further reiterated that all schools should keep in mind that education is not static. The DPS schools meet with the requirements of children that are forever changing, increasing aspirations of parents and progressively advancing technology. While praising the school choir, he also said tht programmes like these are a platform to showcase the child’s latent talent. He complemented on the newly inaugurated auditorium of the school through which the number of activities conducted by the school will increase by leaps and bounds.

The three-day spectacular dance drama ‘Tarikh-e-dilli’ presented by DPS Chandigarh in the school as part of the Annual Day Celebrations concluded today. It also marked the inauguration of the school auditorium – ‘Rajiv Gandhi Hall of Excellence’.
The Annual Production was graced by many distinguished guests with Mr. Kuldeep Sharma, MLA, Speaker, Haryana Legislative Assembly as Chief Guest and Mr. Vijoy Kumar Singh, IAS, Finance & Education Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh who presided over the function. The function was also attended by Mr. Sandeep Hans, DPI(Schools) U.T. Chandigarh and Mr. R.J. Khanderao, Regional Officer, CBSE, Panchkula.

Independence Day 2011
Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and zeal at Delhi Public School, Chandigarh. The programme began with the unfurling of the ‘Tiranga’ along with rendition of our national anthem by all present.
The tiny tots of Primary Wing organized ‘India of My Dreams’, a class presentation with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The celebrations included the rendition of the song ‘Nanna munna rahi hoon’ , evoking the spirit of sacrifice for the country followed by the children speaking about their dreams of taking India to the pinnacle of great glory and success.
The school choir sang the ever-inspiring patriotic songs, ‘Saare Jahan Se Achha’ and ‘Samay Hamara Aaya Hai’ in which all the students and staff joined in. The celebrations concluded with refreshments for all.
DPS Chandigarh Wins Umang Utsav 2011
On 6th August, 2011, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh proudly hosted Umang Utsav 2011, an Inter DPS Folk Dance Competition. Various teams from North Zone – I participated in the event.
Mr. Chanchal Singh,DEO, Chandigarh Administration graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. He lauded the efforts of students for putting up such a spectacular show. Mr. Chanchal Singh appreciated the efforts of DPS Schools. He said that with the introduction ofCCE, such cultural activities play a great role in the school curriculum.
The competition was adjudged by renowned personalities from the field of dance, Ms. Suchitra Mitra, a renowned Bharat Natyam exponent and Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, HOD Dance,Govt.College for Girls, Sector 11,Chandigarh. The occasion was also graced by Ms. Bittu Sandhu, Director, Strides.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The honoured guests, dignitaries and participating teams were accorded a warm welcome by the Principal, Ms. Reema Dewan. She expressed her pleasure for the opportunity to host such a grand event.
The afternoon was a wonderful blend of dance and rhythm. Each team journeyed to various parts ofIndiapresenting the folk dance of a region. The event endeavoured to instill among children a sense of pride in the great Indian culture and heritage. The scintillating performances put up by the teams held the audience spellbound.
DPS Chandigarh was adjudged the winner and DPS Amritsar bagged the runners-up position. The event drew to a close with a vote of thanks followed by the prize distribution ceremony.
