In an attempt to create awareness and sensitise students towards the importance of road safety, Delhi Public School organized a field trip to the Traffic Park for the children of classes Nursery and Prep. The children enjoyed learning about the various aspects of road safety, road signs and traffic signals in aplay way method. They also watched a short film about the safety measures to be adopted by the citizens to keep themselves safe on the roads. The visit to the Traffic Park was not only educational but also an attempt to make them responsible road users.
‘National Book Week’ celebrated in Delhi Public School
Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated a fun-filled literary based ‘National Book Week’ from November 15 to November 21, 2018.
The school library under the guidance of Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan conducted activities to enhance the creative and scholastic skills of the children.
The students of the Primary school (Classes III-V) had a thrilling and joyful experience while participating in an event ‘Read with Rhythm’ (Musical Chairs).
The students of the middle school (Classes VI to VIII) had participated in an event ‘Book Tasting’. Library was setup like a restaurant complete with a ‘Book Tasting Menu’. Students wrote a quick response sheet and rating of the book based on the menu card. Students enjoyed the treat of delicious books.
The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan appreciated the innovative activities and shared that when it comes to reading, it just like eating. The perfect way to pique their appetite for a good read is to have a book tasting. It’s a great way to let young readers sample different authors and a good way for the schools to gauge what kids like to read.

Universal Children’s Day-Exchange Programme of DPS with a school in Romania
On Universal Children’s Day International Exchange Programme of Delhi Public School Chandigarh started with 159 years Old School at Bucharest, Romania
Chandigarh, November 20: As part of the ‘Go Global’ campaign initiated by Yuvsatta-an NGO, today on Universal Children’s Day, Peace Club student members of Delhi Public School started an international exchange programme with Colegiul Național Matei Basarab-a prestigious 159 years Old School at Bucharest, the capital city Romania.
Sharing her thoughts, Mrs. Reema Dewan School Principal said that such ‘International Exchange Programmes expand the horizons of young people, changing the way they see the world. It increases much their larger and in-depth understanding of the world and its many cultures. And at DPS their focus remainsto embolden students to discover new ways of adaptability and learning to be able to be a part of the global world.
Mrs. Reema Dewan further stated that there is no better day than Universal Children’s Day-November 20th to start this international exchange programme. As each year on Universal Children’s Day, we promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.
Giving information about major highlights of the initiative, Pramod Sharma, coordinator of Yuvsatta said that to further strengthen this Indo-Romania International School Exchange Programme, they have designed a School-Buddies programme in which students from both Schools will exchange weekly emails to learn more about each other’s people, country, festivals, education system and governance. The DPS students have also started preparing X-mas and New Year Cards for their new friends in Romania which they’ll send soon next month. Regular international Skype Conference calls are also planned. Besides they’re also expecting their new friends to visit DPS, Chandigarh next year and similarly at a suitable time DPS, Chandigarh students will also plan a visit to Romania fortifying further the Indian ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is a Sanskrit phrase, which means “the world is one family”.

Shubhra Koser (XII-C) won the First Prize in Kala Utsav 2018– a State level dance Competition organised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development on November 15,2018. She will be going for the Nationals in December.
ROTARY CLUB AND DPS CHANDIGARH CELEBRATE ‘INTERACT UTSAV – CELEBRATING YOUTH IN SERVICE’
Rotary Club of Chandigarh along with six city schools celebrated the ‘Interact Utsav’ to acknowledge and commend the efforts of Rotary’s youngest partners in service on 14th November 2018 in the school auditorium of DPS Chandigarh. It also commemorated Children’s Day. Hon’ble Justice Jitendra Chauhan was the Chief Guest for the occasion. It was also attended by eminent Rotarians and School Principals.
The Chief Guest Hon’ble Justice Jitendra Chauhan in his address said it is commendable to imbibe the value of service before self at a young age to develop into adults of substance.
President, Rotary Club Chandigarh Mr. A.P. Singh Dhiman also addressed the gathering.
The occasion was marked by colourful performances given by all the participating schools. Vibrant and colourful folk dances, nukkad nataks and soulful rendition of songs enlivened the atmosphere. The nukkad nataks sent out loud and clear social messages and definitely hit the bull’s eye.
In the citation ceremony the Principals of the participating schools were honoured.
The occasion was a great success. Mrs Reema Dewan, the Principal of the host school, proposed the Vote of Thanks and urged the children to help make the world a better place to live in. The occasion culminated on a happy and a festive note.
Pre- Primary Wing –‘Show And Tell’
Show and Tell is an important part of a child’s learning and development, as it helps them to organize information and build their confidence.
With the aim of providing opportunity to the children of the Pre- Primary Wing to develop effective communication skills, a “Show And Tell” competition was held in school. The topics were- My favourite fruit/ vegetable, My favourite story book, My favourite bedtime story, This is Me. In the competition children took the center stage and spoke on the topic with a lot of confidence, facial expressions and voice modulation.
Overall, the show was a spectacular learning experience for the kids.
CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, CHANDIGARH
Students of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated the Children’s Day with true childhood spirit. The entire school spent the day soaked in fun and frolic. Teachers arranged a mega – mashup of games, sports events, jam sessions, dance hours, pool lunches, outdoor photo-shoot, etc… Apart from various indoor games, the evergreen dumb charades and antakshari being their favourite. The cricket and basketball matches between teachers and students of classes IX to XII were the best applauded events! Special stamina and team building games were organised – the favourites were Bunny Jumping and Grabbing the Tails!
It was happiness in abundance as the children spent the day without books and the school abuzz with smiles, laughter and chuckles of innocent childhood!
Pre Primary Wing -Theatre Fest (Street Play)
We at DPS strive to make learning for our students through play and ’Learning by Doing’ activities. Keeping this in mind, the Pre- Primary Wing had taken an initiative to sensitize the parents and children about some social evils through Street Plays. It created awareness about relevant social issues. The different social issues that were highlighted during the week were Road Safety, Swachh Bharat, Pollution and Bachpan. The children enjoyed presenting various issues through songs and enactment. It was enriching experience for them.
Pre- Primary Wing celebrated ‘Diwali’
The Pre- Primary Wing wore a festive look as students celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali. The significance of the festival was brought out through stories, movies and class discussions.
To give children a hands on experience, a potter was invited to school. Children were delighted as they moulded clay into diyas. Children were also made aware of the hazards of bursting crackers and they promised to celebrate a Green Diwali.
Session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
A session on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and first aid was organised for the students of Delhi Public School Chandigarh on 29th October 2018. The session was conducted by a team from Fortis Hospital, Mohali. The children were told about how to deal with commonly occurring situations in our day to day life. They were given hands-on training in CPR by the team. It was an interactive and educative session which delivered the skills and confidence to use first aid and CPR in real life situation.

Inter-DPS Commerce Fest – A Battle of Brains
The Annual Inter-DPS National Commerce Festival – Vanijya 2018 was held at Delhi Public School Chandigarh on October 13, 2018 in the school premises. More than 180 students from 20 DPS schools from across the country competed against each other in highly challenging events. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Shashank Anand, Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic & Security, Chandigarh and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Ajay Bahl, Prof. Cardiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
The festival is an endeavour to give students a platform and a simulated environment to develop as well as showcase their entrepreneurship skills and business acumen. The onsite events Bizmania – ‘The Business Quiz’, Pandora’s Box – ‘The Product Fair’, Juggernaut – ‘Launch Your Dream Scheme’, Expressions – ‘De-stress Factory ‘ and Enchanteur – ‘Micro Tales’ all aimed at promoting and encouraging among student business awareness, taking care of all its aspects and emphasizing on ‘Think Beyond Stay Ahead Outlook’.
The Principal, Mrs Reema Dewan said that DPS Chandigarh is committed to honing the latent potential in every student by providing them the right platform, the right environment and opportunity. Lauding the educational motto of DPS Society, she laid emphasis that these festivals are epicentres of fortifying and realizing the true spirit of Dipsites. Amidst all the fun and festivity, it was truly a battle of brains.
DPS Chandigarh bagged the overall trophy. But, being the host school passed on the trophy to DPS Dwarka.
