Diwali Assembly organised at DPS

Diwali is an indicator of the return of hope, the conquest of light over darkness and good over evil. There was joy and gaiety in the air as Delhi Public School Chandigarh celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali with a special assembly.
The Assembly commenced with a prayer. The students then presented an engaging talk show on the diverse ways in which the festival of Diwali is celebrated across India. The mood of cheer was carried forward with a scintillating dance performance on live music.
Children were made aware that Diwali is the festival of lights and not sound. They were sensitised about the ill –effects of crackers and informed that the best way to celebrate Diwali is by lighting diyas and not bursting crackers. The students then took a pledge on Clean Diwali, Swachh Diwali by saying ‘No to Crackers’.
An Essay Competition was conducted in which students from Classes VI to X took part with great enthusiasm.

Our school team secured 3rd position in U-17 girls team championship in CBSE cluster Table Tennis Tournament.

Our school team comprising of Parneet Saini of class 9-G, Shreshtha of class 9-C and Avani of class 9-A secured 3rd position in U-17 girls team Campionship in CBSE cluster Table Tennis Tournament held at St. Soldiers International Convent School, Mohali from October 3,2019 to October 6,2019.

Pre- Primary Wing celebrated Diwali

The Pre- Primary wing wore a festive look as the students celebrated the festival of lights- Diwali. On this auspicious occasion special assembly was organized for the students of Pre- Primary wing.
The significance of the festival was brought out through stories, movies and class discussions. To give children a hands-on experience, a potter was invited to school. Children were delighted as they moulded clay diyas. Children were also made aware of the hazards of bursting crackers and they promised to celebrate a safe and green Diwali.

Cherrish Chhabra won prizes in Seventh Bipun Saronwala Memorial Table Tennis Tournament.

Cherrish Chhabra of class 7th A won First prize in youth girls and Third prize in Seventh (7th) Bipun Saronwala Memorial Table Tennis Tournament held in Gymkhana Club, Patiala on 5th and 6th Oct’2019
She also won 3rd prize in sub junior girls state ranking held in Ludhiana on 7th and 8th Oct’2019.

Our school won Best School Trophy in Junior Boys Section and also received a cash prize of Rupees 25,000.

Self Defense Training organised

To inculcate the feeling of confidence and self respect, a workshop on Self Defense was organized in collabration with the police department and the NGO Swaiyam. An initiative of this sort empowered the young girls of classes 5 and 6 not only physically and mentally but also psychologically. Around 200 girls participated in this self defense training program from 13th september to 11th October.

Samvidhi : The Legal Conclave concludes at DPS Chandigarh

The Legal Conclave at DPS Chandigarh came to a fruitful close on 22nd October, 2019. The compelling event witnessed an illustrious guest list comprising Mr. Inderjeet Mehta, Session Judge, Mr. Mahavir, President SLSA and Vivek Atray, Ex IAS, Author and Advisor. In his opening address, Mr. Inderjeet Mehta complimented the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan for being the beacon of pragmatic and integrated learning in the Tricity and furnishing such a stimulating environment. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation and level of awareness among the students. He reached out to the students saying that hard work and sincerity are at a higher pedestal than basic intellect which is an added bonus.
Day Two saw 6 Semi Finalists caught in a brainstorming ‘Vidhigya’, a quiz followed by a fierce battle of wits in ‘Vidhi Sangyan’, the debate.
The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan strongly supported the need of creative and critical thinking and learning. She reiterated her belief in the holistic development of the young minds through co-curricular activities and events.
The third position of the first ever Legal Quiz : Vidhigya was secured by Rohit Ghangas and Harshit of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. The second position was bagged by Jugaad Singh and Jasmeen Kaur of DPS Chandigarh and the team which swept away the winner’s trophy of the Legal Quiz was Prabhroop and Geetika Bhatia of DPS Chandigarh.
This successful event set an unprecedented benchmark in showcasing the multifaceted talent of students of the Tricity.

DPS wins Reliance Cup

Students of DPS Chandigarh brought laurels to the school by pocketing a number of medals in various field events at the Reliance cup. DPS Chandigarh was declared the Best Performing School in junior boys category. The team walked away with the prestigious Reliance Cup and a cash prize of Rs. 25000.

CLASS XI CLASS SHOW

The students of class XI DPS Chandigarh, presented their class show “Hasya Vyangya” – A Parody of Life on the occasion of Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony, celebrating the tragi-comedy of life. The meritorious students were felicitated for their academic performance. Mrs. Bhawna Garg, Deputy Director General (DDG), UIDAI Regional Office, Chandigarh was the chief guest for the occasion.
The show opened with a soul stirring Ganesh Vandana. Then the zealous students put up a spectacular show by satirizing the most prevalent ills of society with a humorous take on them. The students conveyed an artistic burlesque on the condition of Indian railways, dowry system and the changing face of the Guru – Shishya Pratha with a covert message to the audience to introspect and herald a change.
The applause by the parents proved testimony to the laudable effort of two hundred participants. The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan congratulated all those who made the program a grand success. She said that extracurricular activities help in the holistic development of children and advised students to balance their academics with co-curricular activities.

Rotary Reconnect Week celebrated at Delhi Public School

Rotary Reconnect Week was celebrated with great aplomb at Delhi Public School Chandigarh. On October 9, 2019, a Medical Camp was organized for class IV employees as a joint service project with the alumni association. As the school hosted the Reconnect Week, Interactors welcomed Alumni and Rotaractors. 60 ex-students of DPS Chandigarh attended the event. A fellowship session was held to share ideas and experiences with the budding interactors. A movie showcasing various projects taken up by the Interact Club of the school over the years was presented at the occasion. A basketball match was organized between current interactors and alumni to foster the feelings of Team Spirit and Camaraderie. Students gathered to share their experiences, network with each other and exchange ideas for staying involved with the Rotary over scrumptious refreshments sponsored by the Interact Club. It was indeed an opportunity for the participants who have lost their active connection with Rotary to refresh their ties.
The Principal, Ms Reema Dewan, lauded the efforts of the Interact Club and the alumni and said that “Changing the world is possible through consistent efforts and Rotary shows the way”.

Global Youth Peace Festival 2019

The Global Youth Peace Festival was organised by NGO –Yuvsatta to promote the age old Indian ethos of –‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam-world is one family’, youth leadership, women rights and transformative changes. Our students Prabhroop, Gurkirat, Aishwarya, Hargun, Sanya and Tanvi of Class XII attended the program. The program was organised at the Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management & Catering and Indian School of Business, Mohali from 30th September to 2nd October, 2019. The event saw youngsters from all over the world come up at one platform and discuss global issues and their possible solutions. Delegates from Bali, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Syria along with many others attended the event. The American Gandhi Bernie Meyers graced the occasion. The youth had a rewarding experience as they were provided with an out of classroom learning experience with confidence, independence and global competitiveness .
