Our School team comprising of the following students participated in the Strawberry Fields High School Parliamentary Debating Championship held on November 16 and November 17, 2019. The three participants were awarded Certificates of Excellence as Semifinalists:

Two teams comprising of the following students participated in Hansraj Parliamentary Debating Championship held on November 2 and November 3, 2019:

Jeevant Rajeev (Class XI), Ayush Hans (Class IX), Aditya Bhargava (Class X), Aditi Jha (Class XI), Avantika Sud (Class XI) and Aarushi Aggarwal (Class XI)

Both the teams were awarded Certificates of excellence as Semifinalists.

Career Counseling Session

Officials from Whistling woods International Institute- an initiative by Mr Subhash Ghai conducted a career counselling session from students of class XI and XII. They interacted with students and discussed with them about careers in film, television, media and radio. The session helped students to think about non-conventional careers.

DPS Commerce Fest 2019 – ‘A Battle of Wits’

The Annual Inter-DPS Commerce Festival-VANIJYA 2019 was held at DPS, Chandigarh on 16th of November, 2019 in the school premises. Around 200 students from 19 Delhi Public Schools from across the country were seen competing against each other, making it a great feat. The Chief Guest for the occasion Mr. Kumar Abhay lauded the efforts of the participants and congratulated the school for hosting up such a well-coordinated event.
The Commerce festival not only allows the students to explore their creative and business sensibilities but also promises a multitude of activities giving future business leaders a break-through from classrooms into the dynamic and competitive corporate world. The highlights of the festival were onsite events and online events like Spotlight-‘A Stand-up Comedy’, Freakonomics-‘A new-style intellectual rap’, Mergenture-‘Making the Dream Team’, Bizmania-‘A Business Quiz’ and Juggernaut-‘Economics based Scrabble’, all aimed at instilling a sense of understanding in the students regarding the functioning of the economy, business and commerce. Illustrious people from different fields adjudged the various events.
The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan said that DPS is committed to developing the minds of the students and giving them wings to realize their dreams. She said that this Commerce Fest – Vanijya 2019 was more than competition, it is the collaboration which saw the best of wits and brains battling to prove their mettle. She commended the efforts of everyone associated with the event in putting up a successful event of this magnitude.
The Valedictory and the Prize Distribution Ceremony commenced with a mesmerizing cultural extravaganza followed by the prize distribution ceremony. DPS Dwarka was awarded the overall best performance award for onsite events.
DPS Chandigarh bagged the second position. But, being the host school passed on the trophy to DPS Vasant Kunj.
Vanijya-2019 ended as a landmark success leaving students yearning for more.

Community Service under the ‘1 India Campaign’

To promote spirit of national unity, communal harmony and patriotism now from past six years, we are collecting new sweaters and jackets for school students in Kashmir and also New Year Greeting cards and Thank You cards for brave soldiers of Indian Army posted in Kashmir valley.
This year’s donations of love warmth of friendship signifying the spirit of ‘1 India’ was sent in an Army Truck after a brief felicitation ceremony on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at KB DAV Sr. Sec. Public School, Sector 7-B, Chandigarh.

CHILDREN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS

‘Childhood is an enchanting vista, endless fun, a joyful classroom and an era of imagination’.
Acknowledging the fact that children are our most valuable resource, students at DPS Chandigarh, spent a memorable day at school-enjoying themselves with special games and interactive sessions organised by teachers. It was party time for students with fun, food and frolic. Children of Interact Club visited Shishu Greh, Sec 15, Panchkula and distributed goodies to mark the occasion.
A special sports session was organised for the junior and senior school where students participated in varied games and activities. Children enjoyed and shared beautiful moments playing games in the school playground.

Pre Primary Wing Gurupurab Assembly

The 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji, the first Sikh Guru is being celebrated with great devotion and fervour.
A special assembly was conducted on the occasion of Parkash Utsav. The assembly commenced with a beautiful rendition of Mool Mantra by the students. They also sang few ‘Shabads’. Children captivated the gathering with a Skit/ Role play based on teachings of Guru Nanak Devji. The message of unity, brotherhood, harmony and selfless service was conveyed by the teachers. At the end, Kada prashad was distributed which the children relished.

Pre Primary -Theatre Fest “Nukkad Natak”

“A passion for the dramatic art is inherent in the nature of a child”.
The early learning series programme helps to instill a lifelong love of learning in children from an early age. Keeping this in mind, an initiative was taken to prepare the children of Pre- Primary Wing for the theatre fest on the social causes like “Say no to Plastics”, “Pollution”, “Swatch Bharat” and “Road Safety”. The idea was to sensitize the children towards the need for a cleaner and healthier world and also to popularize theatre as a tool in boosting children’s confidence and overall personality development. The students performed with enthusiasm leaving the audience

TREE PLANTATION DRIVE BY DPS CHANDIGARH

The students of classes VIII and IX of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh participated enthusiastically in the Tree Plantation Drive on November 6, 2019. A team of 40 students planted a whopping 120 trees in Sector 42, Chandigarh under the guidance of their Mentor Teachers.
The students planted saplings of Gulmohar, Amla, Bottlebrush, Pukhan, Bahera, Putrajiva, Jamun, Neem, Guava, Mango, Shehtoot and Banyan trees. The initiative aims to sensitize both the students and the residents towards the importance of trees in maintaining the ecological balance.

Inter School Street Play Competition

Under the directive of Hub of Learning Program initiated by the CBSE, DPS Chandigarh in its capacity as the Lead Collaborator School hosted Vaividhya Mein Akya! An Inter School Street Play Competition on 4th November, 2019.
Five neighbouring schools participated in the Competition which was adjudged by eminent theatre personalities.
The students presented a kaleidoscopic view of national unity and integrity. The event also highlighted the various pitfalls and stark reality of the national fibre in the most compelling acts.

Result:
The First Prize was bagged by DPS,Chandigarh, the Second Prize was given to Govt. Model Secondary School, MCH, Manimajra and the Third Prize was won by Govt. High School, Sector 46,Chandigarh.
The event was successful in urging the students to revive ,renew and retain their patriotic zeal and realise their duty towards the motherland.

Visit to the Traffic Park

To educate the little ones about the traffic rules and regulations, a visit to the Traffic Park was organised for the children of Classes Nursery and Prep of Delhi Public School on 30th and 31st October 2019. The Traffic Department personnel made children aware about the mandatory and cautionary safety rules to be followed on the road through videos and a small skit. The children were taken around the park to familarise them with traffic lights and the zebra crossing. The trip to the Traffic Park was educative and enjoyable.

National Model United Nations attended by nine students from DPS

Indira Gandhi National Model United Nations Organisation organised, in New Delhi, Rajiv Gandhi National Model United Nations,2019 between October 18 to October 20 attended by nine delegates from DPS, Chandigarh. In the flagship event delegates had an opportunity to listen and interact with dignitaries like Sh.Gaurav Gogoi, Member of Parliament, Smt Deepa Dasmunsi former Union Minister of State of Urban development, Sh Krishna Allavaru, Joint secretary Indian Youth Congress. Committes such as UNCSW, AIPPM, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabah, UNODC, etc with interesting agendas on national and international issues, interaction with leaders created an opportunity where youth showcased their decision making, critical thinking and diplomatic skills made the event life time experience for them.

‘Rashtriya Ekta Saptah’ celebrated at DPS

The 144th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel was celebrated enthusiastically by the students and faculty of Delhi Public School on 30.10.19 and 31.10.2018 as part of ‘Rashtriya Ekta Saptah’.
A written quiz on the life and role of Sardar Patel was conducted on 30th October. About 284 students of class IX participated in it. The whole school took the Integrity Pledge.
On 31st October, a special assembly was held by the students of the school highlighting the important role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in shaping national policies for unity, safety and security of our country. The students, through a poem paid homage to the ‘unifier of India’. To imbibe the same sense of pride and unity as demonstrated by Sardar Patel the students read his quotes, thoughts and also shared some important events that impacted his life. It was followed by the Oath Ceremony, wherein the students and teachers took a pledge to stand for Unity and Integrity of the country and reaffirmed their faith in the values and beliefs of the Iron Man of India.

International School Library month celebrated at DPS

International School Library month is a celebration of books, authors, illustrators and reading and help students gain a life-long passion for reading.

School library organized ‘Character Enactment’ activity for Class V and ‘Secret Mission with Books’ for Class VIII.

Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan appreciated and encouraged students to develop reading habit.
