Nursery- Cooking Without Fire

Don’t tell them how to do it, show them how to do it. Keeping this in mind, we’ve started a weekly activity “Cooking without Fire” for Nursery children to prepare a non- flame dish and thoroughly enjoy the culinary adventure. This is an attempt to teach them discipline, increase their creativity and learn the importance of healthy food. This month they made green drink and green salad. They had great fun making these preparations.

 

Dental Workshop was organized for Class Prep

In an endeavor to teach children about dental workshop was organized for the students of Class Prep. The workshop included an interactive session on dental awareness telling students about common dental ailments especially stressing on problems of cavities, gum diseases and tooth decay.

‘No Horn Day’ celebrated in Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

Students of Delhi Public School joined hands with Rotary Club of Chandigarh to observe “No Horn Day India”. The International Noise Awareness Day was celebrated by the students as they sensitized the passersby and vehicle owners to reduce the level of noise in the environment by informing them of the health hazards  that  unnecessary honking  causes such as  deafness, ringing sensation in the ears (Tinnitus), high  blood pressure, and palpitations.

Some residents felt the event was a useful step in raising awareness among people and more such steps should be taken to actually reduce the honking habits of the people.

 

‘Mystery Skype’ Session for Class VIII

A ‘Mystery Skype’ session was held on 21 April 2017 for students of Class 8. They interacted with Mr Donal, a Science and Computer Science teacher from Limerick, Ireland. They sailed through various clues to guess the country to which he belongs. In the process, they learnt numerous facts about Ireland and its culture. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session and look forward to more such interactions.

Session with Author Preeti Singh

The students of class seven of Delhi Public School attended a session by an award- winning Chandigarh based author Preeti Singh. The children in this session were encouraged to read good books to enhance their vocabulary and their imagination. She urged the children to use the dictionary. She motivated the children to pen down their thoughts whenever they felt overwhelmed. During the interaction the students asked many questions and the ones who asked the five best questions were given prizes. The Principal, Ms Reema Dewan appreciated the session and emphasized the need to inculcate good reading habits among the children at a young age for all round development of the children’s personality.

Class Prep ELS I-‘Save Trees Save Earth’

The students of Class Prep participated in the Early Learning Series Programme ‘Save Trees Save Earth’ held from 17th April to 21st April 2017. The children were told about the importance of planting trees and the efforts we need to make to save trees in order to save life on earth. Various educational and fun activities were conducted with Earth Day celebrations with children pledging to make Earth a better place to live in.

Class Nursery celebrated Green Week

Nursery celebrated ‘Green Week’ from 17th April to 21st April, where children indulged in various eco- friendly activities. To reinforce the concept of green colour, children came dressed in green clothes, brought green objects and eatables in their tiffin and excitedly took part in green drink making activity. The children were taken for a nature walk and they thoroughly enjoyed the germination activity. The green buddy (germinated plant) and a head gear was given to them as a take away. Special talks were held to make them aware of their responsibility towards nature and environment.

Class Prep ‘Hand Washing Activity’

To inculcate the habit of cleanliness and personal hygiene among the students, a Hand Washing Activity was conducted on the World Health Day (7th April 2017) by Class Prep. Children learned about different steps of washing hands through a poem, “Wash, wash, wash your hands”. The idea behind this activity was to make the students understand that cleanliness is important for good health.

Class Prep Activity-‘Cooking Without Fire’

The students of Class Prep participated in ‘Cooking without Fire.’ Activity organized in the school premises. The tiny tots prepared dishes like Strawberry crackers and fruit chaat to display their culinary skills and ideas. They were shown how to the food they prepared. The tiny tots also enjoyed making lemonade which was refreshing. It was a feast for the eyes and stomach as well. The objective was to encourage healthy eating habits among the students.

Session on Importance Of Oral Hygiene

On the World Health Day, young Dipsites of Class II had a session on Oral Hygiene to make them aware of the importance of having a healthy set of teeth which would set place for a healthy body and a happy life thereafter. The foundation for healthy permanent teeth in children is laid during the first years of life. Therefore, it is essential to establish a proper oral hygiene routine early in life to help ensure the development of strong and healthy teeth. Modules on Oral Hygiene were shown to the children to make the learning meaningful.

Himank Sehgal (X-A) represented Japan in United Nations Environment Programme simulated at Young Leaders’ Summit held on 9th April 2017.

Himank Sehgal (X-A) represented Japan in United Nations Environment Programme simulated at Young Leaders’ Summit held on 9th April 2017. He was awarded ‘High Commendation’ for displaying exemplary services. He also received a cash prize of Rs 1100.

Session on Balanced diet at Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

On the occasion of World Health Day, a session on Balanced Diet was organised for the children of classes 4 and 5 in Delhi Public School, Chandigarh. Ms. Reema Bhatia, a dietitian at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh was invited to deliver the talk. The children were made aware of the importance of a balanced diet and the health problems created by eating junk food. She stressed on the importance of breakfast as it acts as a perfect fuel to start the day. She also emphasised on the fact that healthy eating habits are associated with both classroom behaviour and improved concentration. The children were encouraged to carry healthy tiffin to the school.

our budding Badminton players- Ishita and Simran won National Inter DPS Badminton Tournament 2016.

We take pride in sharing with everyone about the laurel which was brought to the School by our budding Badminton players- Ishita (XI-E) and Simran (XII-B), who won the National Inter DPS Badminton Tournament 2016, held at DPS Panipat Refinery from 5th November- 7th November 2016. Ishita (XIE) and Simran(XIIB) won Bronze medal in doubles. Ishita (XIE) won Gold medal in Singles and was also declared The Best Player of the tournament.
