  3. In accordance  with the visionary and progressive  New Education Policy of 2020 that highlights the importance  of art integration in schools, a pendant making activity for the occasion of Mother’s Day was done by the students of the middle school of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh.  The activity aimed at giving the students’ hands-on experience besides creating joyful classrooms. The purpose of the activity was explained to the students and they were given a brief on how the activity would be conducted.

There was excitement in the air as students got ready with the first step that was mixing of two kinds of clay. Each student then took a small portion and then gave a round, circular, triangular etc shape to the clay as per his/her choice. The clay was then left to set. The next step was painting the pendant with a base colour. The following day, students began painting different designs on the pendant. The students had a free hand and made a variety of shapes and designs. While some made abstract patterns others painted stars, sea, trees, worli art etc. The beautiful array of designs was a sight to behold. Finally, the pendant was given finishing touches  and a beaded string was put in  the hole. The students wrote beautiful messages on a card and mounted their pendant on  the card. It was heartening to see teamwork, coordination and cooperation among the students while doing this activity.

This experiential learning  will go a long way in  helping  students grow holistically.
