Students of class 8 of Delhi Public School Chandigarh celebrated their class show with great zeal and enthusiasm. Around 300 students participated in the inter-section ‘Street Play Competition’.
The objective of the competition was to sensitize students about the various ills plaguing the society
Children of each section came together and created awareness about socially relevant themes like corruption, save girl child, cyber crime and organ donation. The students through their brilliant scripts and mesmerizing performances created gripping narratives on stage. The audience was enthralled by the magnetic and mature performance of the student actors. Principal ma’am Ms. Reema Dewaan said that DPS believes in developing the personalities of students. Class shows are an endeavour in the direction because real learning takes place outside as much as it takes inside.
Nursery Class celebrated ‘Blue Week’
Nursery class celebrated ‘Blue Week’ from 8.7.19 to 12.7.19. To reinforce the concept of blue colour children came dressed in blue clothes and brought blue objects. The children participated enthusiastically in many art and craft activities. They yelled in delight as they went out for a ‘rain walk’.
There was brief discussion on Water Cycle also. The little ones made paper boats and sailed them in a tub of water. The children were also told about the importance of water conversation. It was a fun filled and enriching week for the little ones.
Summer Camp
The school was full of life during the Summer Camp held for students from 22nd May to 1st June. The school corridors echoed with joy and laughter when the energetic students moved to their respective destinations for the fun filled activities. the Summer Camp offered Sports, Theatre, Nutty Scientists, Robotics to name a few. It was altogether a complete package of joy, happiness and fulfillment of learning something new.

Summer Camp for the tiny tots
Summer camp is a great opportunity to explore new things or dive deep into areas you love. This summer, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh organised a summer camp for the children from May 16 to June 1,2019. The children participated in a number of fun activities like I- spy game, sprinkler fun, bollywood day,theme parties, grooming sessions and art and craft. The camp concluded with a special celebration of Father’s Day.
Class XII Class Show
On 29th May, 2019, the students of Class XII of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh presented their Class Show- ‘Rhythmic Flight’, an Inter-Section Poetry Recitation Competition and Annul Prize Distribution Ceremony for the session 2018-19. Mr. Muhammad Tayyab, IAS and Director General, School Education Secretary, PSEB graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The event gave the students a platform to showcase their talent as they picked up poems from around the world and creatively presented them through enactment, music and dance etc. The enthusiasm and zeal of the students was appreciable.
The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan in her address reiterated the school’s exemplary performance in Class X and XII board results and apprised the parents with the school’s achievements and the role which the school is playing being chosen as core resource group in PISA. She also emphasized on the holistic development of students.
The young achievers were felicitated for excelling in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. The Chief Guest appreciated the students’ efforts and motivated them to excel in all walks of life.
The event ended in high spirits and was greatly appreciated by the audience.
Session on First Aid and Basic Life Support
A session on First Aid and Basic Life Support was organised for the teachers and the staff of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh on 28th May 2019. A team from Fortis Hospital, Mohali led by Dr Hiteshi demonstrated cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the participants. They practised hands-on on the mannequin. This was to equip the teachers with the skill to manage an emergency which can make the difference between life and death. At the end of the session the queries of the staff members were taken up by the resource team. It was a very interesting and interactive session.
Class X Class Show- ‘Abhivyakti- Ek Naya Nazariya’
The Annual Prize distribution of the students of Class IX, Session 2018-19 of DPS Chandigarh was held on 22nd May 2019 in the school auditorium.
Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests & Chief Executive Officer, UT Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest for the occasion.
The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp. The honoured guest and the parents were given a warm welcome by the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan. In her address, Principal Ma’am talked about the exemplary performance of the students of Classes X and XII in the board exams. She laid great stress on students’ participation in co-curricular activities along with academic proficiency, as it grooms them into well-rounded individuals for life. She introduced the concept of PISA and very proudly announced that DPS has been chosen as the Core Resource Group for Reading Literacy.
The class show aptly titled ‘Abhivyakti- Ek Naya Nazariya’ put up by the students showed India in a new light and focused on the social issues of contemporary India. The show was much lauded by everyone and it was truly successful in showcasing the multifarious talent of the Dipsites.
Pre Primary- ‘Pyjama Party’
To break the monotony and help children relax ‘Pyjama Party’, a pretend day time ‘Sleepover’ with their classmates was organized for the children of classes Nursery, Prep, I and II at Delhi Public School, Chandigarh. The children came in pyjamas and slippers and carried their favourite bed time stories, watching cartoons and eating their favourite food. The cheerful faces and their sunny smiles showed that they all had a good time at the ‘Pyjama Party’. Various activities like statue dance, passing the parcel and Bingo game were conducted.
Maryam Iqbal (Class VII-D) bagged the Third Prize and two of our students, Vanya Bagu and Prakriti (VII-F) secured the merit positions.
In the Poster Making Competition to celebrate ‘No Tobacco Day’ held on 16th May 2019 at Khalsa College of Technology & Business Studies, one of our students, Maryam Iqbal (Class VII-D) bagged the Third Prize and two of our students, Vanya Bagu and Prakriti (VII-F) secured the merit positions.
Siddhant A. Shah and Simarpreet Jus of (X- A) won the First Prize in Creating an Indian Script using art and language symbols.
In St. Johns Heritage Day Celebrations, held on 16th May 2019, Siddhant A. Shah and Simarpreet Jus of (X- A) won the First Prize in Creating an Indian Script using art and language symbols.
Rehmat Singh and Drishti Arora (Class VIII-H) won Second Prize in Tribal Jewellery Making Competition in the same event.
CLASS IX Class Show- “Jhankaar-folk beats of India”
Students of Class IX, Delhi Public School, presented their Annual Class Show – “Jhankaar-folk beats of India” on 17th May’2019 with vibrancy and enthusiasm.
Over 300 students participated in the inter-section folk dance competition which is a mesmerizing way for any state to express its beliefs, joys and sorrow. Principal Ms. Reema Dewan said that the students imbibe the beauty and diversity present in the culture of our country by participating in such events. She proudly conveyed that our school is working for the PISA 2020-21 programme and has been chosen as the Core Resource Group for Reading Literacy.
This was followed by Prize Distribution to students who excelled in Academics and extra-curricular activities.
“SAKURA” Science Exchange Programme attended by DPS student
Student of class 12th of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, Sanil Gupta, attended “SAKURA” Science Exchange Programme, a weeklong program in Japan. This program is an Indo-Japan government initiative and sponsored by the Government of Japan. The student was nominated by the school and was recommended by Distt. Education Officer (UT) and Secretary (Education) for final selection by Ministry of HRD. The program in Japan was designed with an array of activities to give a glimpse of technological advancement, culture and education system in Japan. Nobel laureate Yoshinori Ohsumi also interacted and shared his research on ‘Biological Cell Autophagy’.
Class V Show
The Annual Prize Distribution Function and Class Show of Class V at Delhi Public School, Chandigarh on 14th May 2019 was an ecstatic journey to EUPHORIA – sunshine all the way, showcasing the jubilation of music, dance and drama that enthralled the audience. The chief guest for the show was Mr Kumar Abhay, IAAS, Financial Advisor, PGI. He stressed that children nowadays are expected to show excellence in every field which can only be possible if they remain happy and healthy. He urged the parents to provide stress free and healthy environment to their kids for their holistic development. The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan addressed the audience and emphasized the importance of building confidence among children through curricular and co-curricular activities. She also highlighted the school’s International participation through PISA. She congratulated the students motivating them to strive for excellence. The meritorious students were awarded badges and trophies for excellence in academics and co-curricular activities. The students also staged a Nukkad Natak and through their powerful performance conveyed that it is important to look within to find true happiness and to surround oneself with positive people. They won a thunderous applause from the audience for their riveting performance.
Get Groomed Week
‘Grooming is the secret of real elegance’.
Good health is closely linked to good grooming and personal hygiene. A strong foundation in grooming and personal hygiene habits will help them in the long way in their life’s journey. It is crucial to learn the importance of grooming.
We at DPS, keep in mind the personal grooming and overall development of the child. The Pre- Primary wing planned a ‘Get Groomed Week’ for the students why I learnt about personal hygiene and good manners through fulfilled activities. They attended a session on table manners, corridor manners and the use of ‘Magic Words’. They also learnt how to greet elders. Children were thrilled after attending different sessions throughout the week.
Skype Session with students of Romania
Skype in Classroom is one of the activities taken up by students of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, under which a Skype Conference was organised with students of Colegiul Național Matei Basarab School, Romania to mark India-Romania Children’s Friendship club set up with the help of Yuvsatta, an NGO. Through this Skype Project, students of both schools interacted and shared their daily schedule.
Students from both the schools shared facts about their countries and their governance. They discussed about environmental issues and both the schools planted trees and pledged to save the environment. They also discussed about popular sports in their countries such as football and cricket. The legend of Dracula which is very popular in Romania was also discussed with great enthusiasm.
Principal Reema Dewan appreciated the camaraderie shared by the students from both the schools. She also encouraged students to have more skype sessions with collaborative projects.
