DPS Chandigarh Winners – Western Vocal Music 2013

DPS Chandigarh hosted the Inter- DPS Western Vocal Music Festival on April 27th in the school auditorium.

The music competition featured several teams from North Zone – 1. The participating teams presented Western Vocal Music based on the theme ‘Youth for Change’.

The competition was adjudged by eminent personalities from the field of music with the likes of Dr. Sarika Jain, Mr. Charan Thakur and Ms. Manika Sachdeva.

The programme started with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The honoured guests, participating teams were given a warm welcome by the Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan. She expressed her pleasure in hosting the prestigious event. In her address she said that it was a landmark occasion for DPS Chandigarh to host such an event which is witnessed by the coming together of the members of DPS family.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the melodious and enthralling performances. All the participants earned a thundering applause from the audience. In the Group Song Category, DPS Chandigarh bagged the First Position followed by DPS Amritsar while DPS Amritsar bagged the First Position in the Solo Category with DPS Chandigarh grabbing the First Runners up trophy.

DPS Chandigarh bags International School Award 2013-16

Delhi Public School, Chandigarh received the prestigious International School Award for year 2013-16. DPS Chandigarh is the first school in the tricity to have ever received such rare and great honour. The International School Award instituted by the British Council is an accreditation scheme for international curriculum work open to all nursery, primary and secondary schools in more than 20 countries across the world. The scheme recognizes the integration of an international dimension in school curriculum. Successful schools are accredited for a period of three years i.e. 2013-2016. The accreditation process has an action planning stage, followed by the compilation of a dossier of evidence.

To achieve this accreditation, the school involved all students from Nursery to Class XII in various projects which have a global dimension. The school having several fruitful ongoing exchange programmes with partner schools overseas further strengthened its position for accreditation.

The Principal, Ms. Reema Dewan congratulated the staff and students on their well-deserved success in being accredited with the British Council International School Award.

Earth Day Celebrated by Primary wing

Earth Day was celebrated to sensitize the students towards preservation of environment and need of an eco- friendly society. The children were made aware of their responsibility to preserve and improve the Earth and the quality of life thereon.

Nursery orientation 2013-14

The school conducted an ‘Orientation Programme’ for the children of Class Nursery and their parents on 30th March, 2013. The programme was organized to welcome the tiny tots and give an insight to the parents about the curriculum and teaching methodology to be followed in the school.

The programme began with the lighting of the lamp followed by melodious rendition of a welcome song and beautifully choreographed dances by the students of Class Prep and I.

Kabuliwala

The Pre-Primary Wing of Delhi Public School put up a spectacular show ‘Kabuliwala’ on 21st and 22nd February, 2013.

Based on Rabindranath Tagore’s story ‘Kabuliwala’, it was a colourful presentation dripping with traditions and customs of Bengal.  The show was an enthralling experience wherein the tiny tots took the audience from Kabul to Kolkata. The story portrays that love knows no boundaries and cultures. It has touched the hearts of millions over the decades.

The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan dedicated the show to the showman and the ‘King of Comedy’ Late Mr. Jaspal Bhatti. The Chief Guest Mrs. Savita Bhatti thanked the Principal for dedicating the show to Mr. Bhatti and she said that she could see him come alive in each of the 350 participants on the stage.
