Deepakshi (ClassXI),Jasnoor (Class X C) and Palak (Class VIII F) participated in the Poster Making Competition – ‘Chandigarh of My Dreams’ as a part of the Smart Chandigarh Competition series. They are selected for the next level of the competition to be held on 19th October 2015 .
Mask Decoration Activity
It was a fun filled day for the students of class III as they enjoyed the Mask Decoration Activity. Students decorated the masks and loved wearing them. They took characters of Ramayana. The enactment of the Dussehra scene added to their enjoyment.

Shachi Sudhir and Aashna Verma of Class XII-E won the First prize in the Interschool Sociology Crossword Competition organised at St. John’s School, Sector 26,Chandigarh during “Visitavity-where vision meets creativity”, an event conducted by the Sociology department of the School on 9th October 2015. Thirteen Schools from the tricity participated in this competition.
‘Jasma Odhan’ staged at DPS, Chandigarh
Delhi Public School celebrated the Theatre Festival spreading over four theatrical presentations by students of classes IX to XII.
This fest was graced by eminent personalities – Mrs Savita Bhatti, Chairperson, Mad Arts, Mr. Rupinderjit Singh Brar, Director Public Instructions, UT Chandigarh, Ms. Raji Shrivastav, Director, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab and Mr. V.P. Singh, Secretary, Vigilance and Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs.
Each day of the festival showcased the talent of classes IX-XII and the plays were followed by the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony.
The fest opened with the play, ‘You Can’t Take It With You’ by George Kaufman and Moss Hart. The second day festivities were carried on by the staging of ‘Tasher Desh’ by Rabindra Nath Tagore. The Musical – ‘Sound of Music’ based on Richard Rodger’s and Oscar Hemmerstein’s lyrics was staged on Day 3.
The curtains were drawn on the fest with the presentation of Gujarati folk musical ‘Jasma Odhan’ based on the legendary character and folk deity ‘Jasma’ which left the audience enraptured with the impeccable performances of the students.
The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan in her motivating address stressed upon the need to provide a platform to the students to express themselves beyond academics. She reiterated that we need to inculcate in our children, love for theatre as it is a medium which unfolds both the reality and mystery of the world. Theatre is the key to unlock imagination and opens wings for children’s creativity.
‘Sound of Music’ staged at DPS, Chandigarh
Delhi Public School, Chandigarh staged a musical, ‘Sound of Music’ based on Richard Rodger’s and Oscar Hemmerstein’s (lyrics) on day three of the on-going Theatre Festival in the school.
The musical play portrays the strife of an Austrian family in the face of Nazi invasion. Amongst all the prevailing tension, the Von Trapp family comes closer and finds a new meaning of life through music. They eagerly vent out their joys and sorrows through tunes and words.
Ms. Raji Shrivastav, Director, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab, Mr. V.P. Singh, Secretary, Vigilance, and Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs were the honoured guests on the occasion. The play was followed by the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of class X and XI where the meritorious students were felicitated for achieving excellence in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan congratulated the cast and team of ‘Sound of Music’ and stressed on the need/value of participation in the co-curricular activities in grooming wholesome personality of the students. While she encouraged the students to make the most of the given platform outside the classroom, she urged the parents to inculcate in their children an aim for holistic development.

Theatre Festival
Delhi Public School, Chandigarh staged ‘You Can’t Take It With You’ by George Kaufman and Moss Hart on the first day of the four day Theatre Festival in the school.
The heart warming play portrays what happens when a lovely girl from an eccentric family falls in love with a boy who belongs to the most sophisticated, high browed and snooty family. The touching story shows how the little quirks and oddities of each family are annoying yet endearing and they are what makes a family one of a kind.
Mrs Savita Bhatti, Chairperson, Mad Arts was the chief guest on the occasion. In her address, she congratulated the Principal, staff and students for having put up such a grand show. She appreciated the Principal for believing in the philosophy that the co-curricular activities are as important as the academics. She said that theatre was the perfect medium to shift mind sets from ‘I’ to ‘We’, teaching us to work together as a team. The play was followed by the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of Class X where the young scholars were felicitated for achieving excellence in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.
