‘Jasma Odhan’ staged at DPS, Chandigarh

Delhi Public School celebrated the Theatre Festival spreading over four theatrical presentations by students of classes IX to XII.

This fest was graced by eminent personalities – Mrs Savita Bhatti, Chairperson, Mad Arts, Mr. Rupinderjit Singh Brar, Director Public Instructions, UT Chandigarh, Ms. Raji Shrivastav, Director, Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab and Mr. V.P. Singh, Secretary, Vigilance and Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs.

Each day of the festival showcased the talent of classes IX-XII and the plays were followed by the Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony.

The fest opened with the play, ‘You Can’t Take It With You’ by George Kaufman and Moss Hart. The second day festivities were carried on by the staging of ‘Tasher Desh’ by Rabindra Nath Tagore.  The Musical – ‘Sound of Music’ based on Richard Rodger’s and Oscar Hemmerstein’s  lyrics was staged on Day 3.

The curtains were drawn on the fest with the presentation of Gujarati folk musical ‘Jasma Odhan’ based on the legendary character and folk deity ‘Jasma’ which left the audience enraptured with the impeccable performances of the students.

The Principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan in her motivating address stressed upon the need to provide a platform to the students to express themselves beyond academics. She reiterated that we need to inculcate in our children, love for theatre as it is a medium which unfolds both the reality and mystery of the world. Theatre is the key to unlock imagination and opens wings for children’s creativity.
