‘Priyadarshi Ashok’ – Annual Production – 19 Dec

DPS Chandigarh presented a spectacular period dance-drama ‘Priyadarshi Ashok’ on 19th December, 2009 at Indradhanush Auditorium, Panchkula, as part of the Annual Day celebrations.

The mega event was graced by Sh. Salman Khurshid, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) Corporate & Minority Affairs, who presided over as the Chief Guest along with the Guest of Honour, Lt. Gen. J.S. Bawa, Chairman, DPS Chandigarh and many other distinguished guests: Mrs. Ambika Soni, Hon’ble Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Minister for Parliamentary Affairs & Water Resources, Mr. Uday C. Soni, Pro-Vice-Chairman, DPS Chandigarh, Mr. Rajeev Bhatnagar, Pro-Vice-Chairman, DPS Jallandhar & honourable members of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

The celebrations began with a melodious rendition of the song ‘woh yug gaya toh kya hua, yeh yug toh apne pas hai’ presented by nearly eighty singers of the school choir. The traditional lighting of the lamp was followed by the release of the brochure to mark the special occasion. The school annual report, presented in a multimedia presentation, highlighted the milestones achieved by the school in the recent past. In the prize distribution ceremony, students excelling in scholastic & co-scholastic areas were awarded gold medals and trophies.

Then was staged the multimedia production, the audience had been waiting for with a bated breath. The in-house production ‘Priyadarshi Ashok’ brilliantly conceptualized, planned, executed and directed by the dynamic principal, Mrs. Reema Dewan and beautifully choreographed by Ms. Papiha Desai, transported the audience back to the golden era of King Ashok. Set in the backdrop of the Mauryan dynasty, ‘Priyadarshi Ashok’ traced the journey of King Ashoka’s life – from an ambitious & ruthless conqueror to a passionate follower of Dhamma. Interspersed with scintillating dances, enchanting music and supported by opulent sets, exquisite light design and audio-visual show, ‘Priyadarshi Ashok’ captured the hearts of all in the audience.
