Pre- Primary wing organised ‘Green week’

As a part of the Early Learning Series, ‘Green Week’ was organised for the Pre-Primary Wing from April 22 to April 26, 2024.The children engaged themselves in various eco-friendly activities. The children of Class Nursery were also introduced to the colour green through fun activities. The children excitedly took part in nature walk and nature art activity. They thoroughly enjoyed creating their own green garden by planting saplings and also took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean. Special discussions were held to make them aware of their responsibility towards nature and the environment.

DPS Chandigarh Celebrates the World Book Day

The World Book day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour on April 23, 2024 at Delhi Public School, Chandigarh. The school fondly remembered the glorious literary legacy of the great writers and their marvellous work in the special assembly. The students expressed their thoughts on the unravelled world of the books and importance of reading through speeches and a street play. The young readers of the junior wing enthralled everyone with their character parade and melodious song ‘Let’s read a book today’.

The students really enjoyed the performances and it was a fun-filled assembly with a strong message of befriend with books.

The principal Mrs. Reema Dewan acknowledged the efforts of the library department for organising the literary assembly for developing and polishing the reading skills of the students. She further motivated the students and staff to keep reading the good books as it is the food to the mind and soul.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH SESSION FOR GIRLS- Classes VII to X

Growing up girls notice physical changes affecting their mental health too which needs timely in-depth discussion. To promote a positive attitude towards menstrual health among young girls of classes VII-X, Delhi Public School Chandigarh organized a session on Mental and Physical health. This was conducted on 22nd April 2024 by Dr Tejinder Kaur from Health Plus. The session began with the doctor introducing menstruation, explaining its biological process and its significance. The doctor pragmatically explained that it is a completely natural and healthy thing that all the girls are experiencing. She guided the girls on the menstrual cycle, the right and hygienic sanitary materials, and how to maintain good personal hygiene. She also resolved some common misconceptions about menstruation. Self love was emphasised upon very beautifully. The session concluded with a question and answer session with Dr Tejinder Kaur addressing numerous queries and concerns.

Class VI Presented Assembly on ‘Earth Day’

Earth Day is marked across the globe on April 22 to support environmental conservation efforts. In the same spirit, Class 6 students of Delhi Public School presented Earth Day Assembly. To make this day more special, students shared ideas on sustainability and environmental protection. The importance of recycling, reducing waste, and conserving energy was emphasized through music and dance.
The students took pledge to remain committed towards implementing eco-friendly practices such as composting and using reusable items. They were inspired to take action for a greener future.

Class IV organized ‘Show & tell Activity’

“Teaching children the art of oratory is like giving them the key to unlock the doors of opportunity in their future.”
To develop oratory skills of the students, A Show and Tell Activity was organised for the students of Class 4 on 22nd April,2024. The students spoke a few lines on the topic: ”My Favourite Story Book” with theme related props. The children spoke with confidence taking care of the correct pronunciation, fluency and voice modulation. There was an open questionnaire round too wherein the audience asked relevant questions. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, students showcased their ability to communicate effectively and express their thoughts articulately. Such initiatives play a crucial role in nurturing holistic development among young learners.

Pre- Primary Wing celebrated ‘Nutritious week’

Nutrition plays a crucial role in the overall development of young children. With this in mind, ‘Nutritious Week’ was organized for the children of the Pre-Primary wing to educate and instill healthy eating habits among the students. Week long activities were held wherein children were introduced to various food groups, drawing and colouring of their favourite fruit and vegetable, interactive sessions and sorting of healthy and unhealthy foods.The Nutritious Week for the children was a resounding success, as it not only educated the students about the importance of nutrition but also encouraged them to make healthier food choices.

Class – Prep II organized ‘Bathing of a Doll Activity’

Developing and maintaining good personal hygiene is the key to having a healthy body and mind. Keeping this in mind, ‘Bathing of a Doll Activity’ was organized for the students of Class Prep II. During the activity the children learnt about the various steps and things used to keep our body free from germs. This fun activity not only brought big smiles on their faces, but also helped them learn the importance of hygiene, self care and keeping oneself neat and clean. This playtime enhanced their vocabulary and a sense of self-expression and coordination.

Class II organised Sense Organs Guessing Game Activity

Sense organs are specialized organs that help us to sense the world around us. These organs can feel the changes happening around our body and allow it to interact with the environment efficiently. The students of class II of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh were made aware about different sense organs and their importance with the help of different modules and presentation. To reinforce the concept a ‘Guessing Game Activity’ on sense organs was conducted wherein the children enjoyed guessing and answering the riddles about different sense organs. The activity helped the students to engage in learning in a fun-filled and interesting way.

Class VI celebrated Earth Day

EARTH DAY is celebrated around the world with a beautiful message – “Our continuing efforts in our everyday lives will make this beautiful planet thrive.” Earth Day is a proof that even one person can make a global impact in a positive way. Echoing the same, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh celebrated “The Earth Day” through a series of activities.

Array of creative activities were organized with a view to sensitize the children about the conservation of natural resources and to motivate them to do their bit towards making their planet even more beautiful. Our Environmental conservationists from Class VI contributed by creating the best out of the waste from the newspaper. The students enjoyed in creating the masterpieces.

Class VII organised ‘Earth Day Activity’

Earth Day is an annual reminder to protect our mother Earth from various hazards like pollution and deforestation which can leave a major impact on our planet, lives and future. To prevent this situation the students of class VII enjoyed a “Wall Hanging Competition”, based on the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The result of this competition was brilliant. It showcased the talent and creativity of the students. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity. It boosted the competitive spirit of the children and taught them a new craft!

Aarik Garg of Grade VII A has been awarded a scholarship amount of Rs. 6000/- for the successful evaluation of “Philately Projects”, Level 2, under the Deen Dayal Sparsh Yojana-2023-24 organised by the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India.

Class IV organised ‘Reading Activity’

Kate DiCamillo rightly said that reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty; it should be offered to them as a precious gift.
To inculcate the habit of reading among the students, a Reading Activity was organised for the students of Class 4 on 15th April, 2024. During this activity, students were encouraged to read aloud from a book (Peter Pan), focusing on good expression, fluency, and intonation. To assess their comprehension, a worksheet full of activities was given to each child. The Reading Activity proved to be beneficial for the students as it instilled confidence and enthusiasm for reading among the students. It also facilitated the development of reading fluency and expression.
