To mark Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan and to reinforce the message that ‘Good Always Triumphs Over Evil’ the Pre-Primary wing of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh organised fun-filled activities for the little ones on the occasion of Dussehra. The teachers shared information with the children about the festival through an interactive storytelling session. The children also took part in an art and craft activity giving way to their imagination. It was an exhilarating experience for the children as they learnt about the festival and shared the message and story of Dussehra with others.
Delhi Public School Chandigarh, hosted the Annual Inter-DPS Environment Festival – El Entorno on September 26th and 27th, 2024 under the aegis of The DPS Society. More than 200 students from 19 DPS schools from across the country competed against each other in multiple, highly challenging online and onsite events. Ms. Dolly Chanana, Joint Director at the Delhi Public School Society inaugurated the two-day festival. On the second day, Ms. V. Neeraja, IPS, ADGP, Cyber Crime, Punjab was the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Simer Singh Negi, Member, Board of Management Delhi Public School, Chandigarh and Mohali.
The festival is an endeavour to give students a platform to convey a strong message of environment protection and sustainability. The online events included Documentary Making, Photography and E-Sculpt, best out of e-waste art challenge among others to test the consciousness and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals. In the second category of onsite events, DPS Chandigarh witnessed the confluence of creativity and ingenuity in events like Canvas to Cause (Folk Art Expression), Solutions Spectrum (Evaluating Perspectives), Nature ‘s Marionettes (Puppetry Tales), Planet Innovate (Integrating Tech and Nature Exhibition) and Elegancia Elemental (Fashion Show). These events aimed at promoting and encouraging awareness about the crucial role of humans to respect, protect and preserve the natural world.
The Principal, Mrs Reema Dewan said that DPS Chandigarh is the trailblazer of critical and creative learning and is committed to adopt problem solving as a skill set in its curriculum. She congratulated the participants for presenting the best solutions to such varied environmental issues that the whole purpose of the fest achieved its full reward. She urged the students to think and act and strive for a healthy tomorrow. She reiterated the need to shoulder the responsibility and reinforce our accountability towards Mother Earth. She concluded with a shlok from the Vedas, that for the environment, the earth to be advantageous to all, must be nurtured and protected and care for.
The event ended with an invigorating valedictory function with DPS Faridabad bagging the overall trophy.
Recognising and promoting awareness about mental health, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh organized a series of activities under the theme of emotional well-being to mark the World Mental Health Day that falls on 10th October. The team of Safety Pundits (peer educators program at DPS, Chandigarh) undertook a creative initiative by organizing Stone Painting Activity (paint a stone of your most liked emotion) for Class VIII on 7th October 2024. The students exhibited their keenness and creativity by enthusiastically pouring out their emotions in vibrant colors and meaningful words. It gave an opportunity to students to explore the labyrinths of their mind and express themselves aesthetically.
The above activities were conducted to encourage mindfulness through art.
Colours make our life vibrant and infuse joy and happiness amongst children. Emphasizing the importance of colours in early childhood education, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh organized a vibrant and joyful ‘Pink Colour Day’ for the sudents of class Nursery. The young ones and the teachers came dressed in pink attire. Children carried their favourite pink toy and spoke a little about it. The tiny tots participated in hands-on activity of colour mixing and fingerprinting of a flower. The purpose of the activities was fun with learning as it created a memorable experience for our young learners and promoted the importance of colours in their developmental journey.
A ‘Cleanliness Drive’ was organized for the students of the Pre-Primary Wing at Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, in honor of Gandhi Jayanti, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s belief that a clean environment is not merely a civic duty but a moral responsibility. The young Dipsites enthusiastically participated in a variety of engaging activities, such as slogan writing, classroom cleaning, garbage sorting and dress up activity. The day began with the singing of melodious soulful bhajan followed by Gandhiji’ s timeless teachings of non-violence, truth and swachhata.
This meaningful initiative not only paid homage to the ‘Father of the Nation’ but also inspired the young students to adopt cleanliness and moral values as integral part of their lives.
Delhi Public School takes pride in organising a Profile making and future building session for students of Classes VIII to XII in collaboration with the Embarc Team from Singapore in the School auditorium on September 23, 2024. To engage students of classes 7 and 8 in the wonders of science through interactive exhibits and hands-on activities, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh hosted the Mobile Science Exhibition Bus and DigiSky, a portable planetarium, in its campus. The Mobile Science Exhibition is an initiative of Pushpa Gujral Science City that takes Science to the doorsteps. The Mobile Science Exhibition features a variety of exhibits covering topics such as health, environmental, sustainable development, space exploration and more. Students had the opportunity to explore and engage with the interactive science exhibits.
“We believe that science is best learned through experience. This exhibition will not only enhance students’ understanding of scientific concepts but also ignite their curiosity and passion for discovery,” said Ms. Reema Dewan, Principal, Delhi Public School.
Suhani Sharma, the School Head Girl and Founder of the Cubing Club, conducted an engaging session with middle school students (Grades 6th-8th). The response was phenomenal, with over 400 students in attendance and nearly 100 expressing strong interest in joining the Cubing Club. Suhani plans to mentor these eager students over the coming days, helping them refine their cubing skills and organizing a school-level competition. As a National Record holder 2022 and the titleholder of ‘Fastest Female Cuber, 2023’ Suhani finds immense joy in giving back to her alma mater through this initiative.
We are thrilled to announce the successful re-launch of the Sustainability Leaders Program 2024, conceptualised and initiated by our school head girl, Suhani Sharma. After the success of the 2023 program in Mohali with 1200 high school student participating from 20+ schools, this year will see participation from over 450 schools and over 21,000 high school students expanding across the entire state of Punjab. In collaboration with the Punjab State Government’s Department of Local Government and Department of Education, this initiative will focus on promoting solid waste management as part of the Clean India Mission (Urban). Collage making activity invites children to engage in open-ended creative play while enhancing their cognitive and multisensory skills. To integrate innovation and art into the regular curriculum, DPS Chandigarh organized a Collage Making Activity focused on means of transport for the young Dipsites in Class I on September 11, 2024. The children displayed their creativity by crafting beautiful collages, drawing on their imagination. This activity not only introduced them to various means of transport and their significance but also encouraged concentration in an enjoyable manner. It was a truly enriching learning experience for our young Dipsites.
Earth is our mother planet; it offers home to millions of species of plants and animals. To sensitize the students of Class II of Delhi Public School, Chandigarh about the importance of our planet, various modules and presentations were shown during their General Awareness class. A ‘Model Making Activity’ was conducted in the class wherein the students were encouraged to make the model of the Earth using clay of different colours depicting proportion of land and water on Earth. This activity not only helped the students enhance their knowledge about our planet but also helped them visualize Earth from their perspective.
